About

Discover the best contemporary women writers. Discuss feminist activism in the 100 years since UK suffrage. Meet your favourite YA writers. Celebrate women who lived solo, and give yourself chills re-discovering your love of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. It’s time for the Bristol Women’s Literature Festival 2018.

This March, you’ll have the chance to hear from speakers as diverse as Louise Doughty, Meena Kandasamy, Patrice Lawrence, Samira Ahmed, Sheila Rowbotham and many, many more. Together we will celebrate women’s creativity and artistic achievements, counter the male dominance of cultural line-ups, and explore women’s literary history.

The Bristol Women’s Literature Festival is presented in partnership with Bristol Festival of Ideas, Watershed, and Bristol Women’s Voice.

Bristol Women’s Literature Festival brings together the country’s best women writers, academics and feminist commentators to the Watershed for a weekend of thought-provoking discussion, debate and activity.

The festival has three aims:

1. To celebrate the diversity and creativity of women writers
2. To counter the male dominance of literature and cultural festival line-ups
3. To promote women’s writing and literary history
