Women lead the Booker Shortlist

It may be the Man Booker Prize but this year’s shortlist is led by women writers.

For years feminists have highlighted how male dominated the Booker list tends to be – leading after one all male shortlist to the creation of the Women’s Prize for Fiction. So it’s great to see just how celebrated and recognised women writers are this year. Four of the nominees are women – and what great women they are!

Eleanor Catton, Jhumpa Lahiri, Ruth Ozeki and NoViolet Bulawayo have all been nominated for their fantastic and diverse novels.

Here’s the list in full:

Eleanor Catton: The Luminaries

Jhumpa Lahiri: The Lowland

Ruth Ozeki: A Tale for the time being

NoViolet Bulawayo: We need new names

Colm Toibin: The Testament of Mary

Jim Crace: Harvest

Well done to all the nominees!
